I’m writing to thank you and everyone else at New Century for the terrific job you all did on our two-story addition in Alexandria this year. There are a handful of reasons that we found your work and service to be exceptional:
1. Your entire crew was terrific, and your project manager, Dave Williams, was fantastic. Dave was friendly, knowledgeable, and remarkably responsive throughout the project. Dave was also patient as we struggled to make decisions about various features and finishes, and he helped us make good selections without pressuring us toward any materials or features.
2. Quality of work. The finished product is terrific. We were on-site throughout the construction, so we were able to observe your team as worked on every step of the project. Your guys were diligent and attentive throughout, and the finished product reflects their careful and skilled approach.
3. Not intrusive. We have three little kids, each of whom is a light sleeper at nap time. While the noise levels were occasionally high (it’s pretty hard to frame a two-story addition silently), you all were remarkably accommodating. When we asked whether you could schedule particularly noisy or dusty work for days when we were away, you did a great job of reconfiguring your schedule as much as you could.
4. Responsiveness. Your whole team, and Dave in particular, was incredibly responsive to our inquiries and requests. One our biggest frustrations with other contractors has been their failure to call or email us back within a day or two of receiving a comment or question. Dave was amazing in this area. He always responded within 24 hours, and more typically responded within just a few hours. He was also very willing to meet with us at times that fit our schedule, including mornings, evenings and weekends. Dave’s friendly and accessible approach really made this entire project run as smoothly as possible from our perspective.
5. Ability to work with architect. We hired an outside architect to design our addition, and tour team did an excellent job with the plans that she supplied. In many cases, you and Dave noticed features of the design that seemed problematic, and you proposed useful solutions. In one instance, Dave and Ted (your lead carpenter) designed an ingenious solution to a structural problem that the architect had not considered. After receiving approval from an objective structural engineer, your guys implemented the solution quickly and preserved the character of the design.
6. Timeliness. You absolutely nailed your timing estimate. When we first met, you thought our project would take 5 months, and it took 5 months. (I think you may have finished one-week later than estimated, but that was largely due to minor changes we requested along the way.)
In short, you all were terrific, and we would happily recommend you to anyone considering an addition or new construction. Please feel free to use us as a reference.
With great thanks,
Chad and Joy B
